I had always been mesmerized by the collapsing buildings down the residential roads in St. Louis. So much so that I used to drive up and down the streets photographing them, and occasionally turning my photo collages into paintings.
Here’s a trailer for a documentary on those very houses. I never knew the whole back-story, but it all makes sense. St. Louis has a history of good brick, and people who think they can make a few bucks on them come across the country to harvest from a prime selection of abandoned buildings.
